Woman leaves ER to shower and grab dinner, then storms back demanding VIP treatment, her original bed, and place in line: ‘I guess it wasn't that bad after all if she could drive, shower, eat, and even complain’

A woman shows up at the ER, gets checked out, and is told she needs to be admitted. Instead of following the plan, she decides her stomach and cleanliness come first. She heads home for a shower and dinner, then reappears hours later expecting the same bed, the same pace, and the same priorities. The staff treat it like any other Monday, explain how hospital systems actually work, and move on. From where I see it, this whole thing plays out like a medical drama only without any Doug Rosses or McDreamies.

  • It feels like a perfect example of how people mix up healthcare with personal convenience. She probably thought she was being logical by freshening up before her stay, but to everyone else it reads like an elaborate comedy about self-importance. The world runs on process, and she was trying to run on personal timeline. The fact that she called the police to handle what was essentially a scheduling conflict gives the whole thing a sitcom flavor.

  • She was seen, and on a bed in a room in the ER. After several hours there, it was decided that her issues were serious enough that she needed to be admitted to the hospital for further treatment.

  • It was explained to her that is not how it works. She would be admitted to a room in the hospital for the necessary treatment, and she would be able to eat and shower in her room there after the necessary treatment when cleared to do so.

  • This just upset her more. So she eventually just decided to get up and leave. Without informing anyone or signing any paperwork to acknowledge that she was leaving on her own against a doctor's recommendation.

  • Officers showed up in a bit to assess the situation and deal with her. After hearing her tirade in person, they explained to her that what she wanted was not how it works.

  • To me, it shows how badly people want control in places that exist to take control away for safety. Hospitals strip you of comfort and routine, but that is the price of being treated properly. She tried to outsmart the system and ended up starring in her own short story about entitlement. It is funny, but also a reminder that stubbornness is sometimes stronger than sense, especially when hunger and a good shower get involved

  • Shibaspots I had a medical event recently. I went to my local small ER, who decided I needed to be admitted to the hospital proper which was only about 20 minutes away. There have been cases I know of in the past where that ER has permitted people to drive. themselves over and alerted the hospital, so the patient continues treatment once they arrive. I was concerned about having to arrange for rides and my car possibly getting towed, so asked if I could do that. They said no, as they didn't want

  • OP joebagd In this case, the ER was in the actual hospital, not a remote stand alone ER facility. This woman just needed to get transferred over to a different department in the hospital itself.

  • OP joebagd Not me, but let's say I have plenty of friends and family in the medical field and know a bit about how it all works myself too. So I get to hear lots of stories from the folks involved in these types of incidents and what happens all the time. This one just happened to be a very good fit for this sub this time lol

  • _gadget_girl Entitled was the mother who decided to have a full on meltdown over her daughter not being seen before the person coding in the trauma room because "they had been there longer". Staff encouraged her to go to another hospital if she was unhappy with their care.
